Another thing I have learned along the way is that it isn't always easy for every mom and baby to get started. Le Leche League Canada provides free mother to mother breastfeeding support in an relaxed, open environment. Monthly meetings are being held all over the city of Toronto and throughout Canada. In my doula practice I encourage expecting mothers to attend a few Le Leche League meetings while they are still pregnant. This is a wonderful opportunity to observe other woman feeding their babies while learning about the wonderful world of breastfeeding.
Here's what some mom's have to say about the benefits of Le Leche League:
"I found it helpful to attend in pregnancy. Being able to see other moms nurse their babies and hear about both troubles and successes made me feel more confident about breastfeeding - mostly because when I did go through a few rough patches in the early days, I knew that I wasn't alone and that there was a place I could go to find what I needed to succeed. I keep going because I hope my presence and experience can help someone else succeed."

"My mom went to Le Leche League meetings when I was a baby. I went to Le Leche League meetings and found the support for breastfeeding that we both needed! Other benefit's include questioning conventional wisdom and being open to trying different approaches."

"Meeting with like minded people in an open, friendly, encouraging environment while discussing important topics and receiving education and support from knowledgeable caring leaders."
